ICONIX Reading Program

We don't teach reading strategies. We build the developmental skills that make reading possible.

Most reading interventions focus on phonics drills, fluency practice, and comprehension worksheets. But if the underlying developmental systems aren't ready, no amount of practice will close the gap.

The ICONIX Reading Program starts with a Reading Readiness Assessment that evaluates the four developmental pillars required for successful reading. Then we build a targeted program to strengthen whichever pillars need support.

The Four Pillars of Reading

Every successful reader depends on these four developmental foundations working together.

1

Oculomotor Control

The ability to move and stabilize the eyes for efficient reading. Without smooth, accurate eye movements, tracking across a line of text becomes exhausting and error-prone.

2

Instant Visual Recognition of Symbols

Rapid recognition of letters and words. When the brain can instantly identify symbols without laborious decoding, reading becomes fluent and automatic.

3

Imagery Creation

The ability to form mental images while reading. This is what turns words on a page into a movie in the mind — the foundation of reading comprehension.

4

Predictive Capacity

The ability to anticipate meaning and structure in language. Skilled readers predict what comes next, making reading faster and more meaningful.

Reading Readiness Assessment

Before we begin, we assess your child's readiness across all four pillars. This tells us exactly which developmental systems need strengthening — so we're not guessing, we're targeting.

The assessment identifies gaps that traditional reading tests miss, because we're looking at the neurological foundations, not just the academic symptoms.

  • Evaluates all four developmental pillars
  • Identifies specific areas of weakness
  • Creates a targeted intervention roadmap
  • Tracks progress with measurable benchmarks

Why This Approach Works

ICONIX doesn't simply teach reading strategies. We build the underlying developmental skills that make reading possible in the first place. When the four pillars are strong, reading instruction finally sticks — because the brain is ready to receive it.

This is why children who have failed with traditional tutoring and intervention often succeed with our approach. We're solving a different problem — the foundational one.
